Miscommunication

I got an email today from Matthew, an old friend of mine who now lives in Nigeria. He was replying to an email from another old friend of mine, Barry who lives in Texas, and is the father of three boys. Apparently, Barry had sent out an email that said “Our family is expanding again. And this time it’s a girl!” I never saw Barry’s original email or the picture that was attached. Matthew’s reply read, “Congratulations on the girl! I knew it was yours when I saw the picture.” I figured he must be referring to a sonogram picture that was attached to Barry’s original email. So I wrote an email to Barry that read, “A girl? That’s awesome. Congratulations. When is she due?” Barry wrote back again, “Dude. It’s a dog. Didn’t you see the picture?” I hadn’t.
