Waiting

Everything has slowed down since we’ve settled here in Seattle. Now that we are here, and everyone is more acquainted with Sarah’s condition, the level of alarm has gone down significantly.

It seemed as if all of the doctors in Alaska wanted Sarah out of Alaska. And we can understand this. The feeling in both Fairbanks and Anchorage was that even though she looked strong and stable, her condition could deteriorate, and no one wanted her to be in Alaska if that happened. Now that she is in Seattle, and everything is settled, she is stable enough for surgery to wait for a few days.

And if, as the doctors in Fairbanks and Anchorage feared, her condition deteriorates, she is right here in one of the best children’s hospitals in the world.

We didn’t feel calm yesterday. From the time the diagnosis was first given, and then the transport, and then the cardiac catheter, and then further transport, everything seemed very fast. Very rushed. It felt like falling a long way.

Now that we are in Seattle, everything feels better. Everything is moving slower. Sarah is in good shape, and though she will need major cardiac surgery to address her condition, it will not be an emergency. And no one wants to be in a huge hurry when that kind of procedure is called for.

Stephanie’s very good friend Rachel arrived last night, and it has been good to see another friendly face. Our thanks to Rachel for coming, and our thanks to everyone for all of the well-wishes and offers to help.

Today is Sunday, and Monday is a holiday. I think things are going to be quiet and still for a while. We will try to reach out by phone to those we haven’t had time to call. We expect the gathering of doctors to be on Tuesday morning, and by that time we should have a date scheduled, and the surgeons should have a plan. Until then we are all simply resting and waiting.

Hey Folks,
It sounds like Sarah is in a good place and in good hands. Glad for you to have a friend with you. We have you in our thoughts and prayers here and in several other states with our extended families
Love to all

I will be heading your way as soon as I know the surgery date. In the mean time I will continue to pray for Sarah's well-being, comfort, and the hands of the doctors that will take care of her so that all will be well. And remember this from Psalm 55:22 Give your worries to the Lord, and He will take care of you.

Love,

Dad
