Free Willy

Here is a window into Jacob’s fastidious personality. This is in the corner of Jacob’s bedroom. This wrapping paper covered cardboard box is the home of Jacob’s favorite stuffed animal, a killer whale named Free Willy. You can see the killer whale there in the middle of the box, resting on “his bed,” the VHS case for the movie Free Willy. The red pillow was in Willy’s Christmas stocking[1], along with a few pictures to decorate the inside of Willy’s house. On the left is a small Christmas tree for Willy to enjoy.

And another insightful detail: lately, Jacob has been putting his shoes right here in his bedroom instead of putting them into the cubbies we have by the front door where we all put our shoes, gloves, etc. He’s been getting frustrated by not being able to find his shoes quickly when it is time to go somewhere, so now he puts them here in his room right where he can find them quickly.

[1] On Christmas Eve, after we got home from church and had opened all of our stockings, Jacob was on his way to bed when he asked Stephanie about Willy’s stocking and what would be in it. Stephanie assured him that Willy would have a stocking in the morning. She spent the next half hour after the boys were in bed gathering “presents” for Willy and filling a stocking.

On Christmas morning, Jacob and Willy opened Willy’s stocking that included pictures of killer whales for Willy’s house, a picture of Jacob and Willy together, a pillow for Willy’s bed, and a package of fruit snacks. Jacob had the widest grin on his face the entire time he was going through that stocking. I think he enjoyed it as much or even more than he enjoyed opening his own stocking.

Just when I think he is getting too old for his Willy infatuation, he keeps it going! And he is still so stinking cute!
